Odell Beckham Jr. Legally Changes His First Name To David

Odell Beckham Jr. filed paperwork at the courthouse Friday to legally change his first name to "David.” When asked about the changing of his name and why he did it, Beckham said

“Because I can.”

Beckham has said in the past that fútbol is his first love, and also feels that his love of wild fashion and hairstyles makes him better suited to a soccer player's lifestyle. “I see them wearing these wild hairstyles and shit and think ‘man that’s the sport I need to be playing’. So why not make it official and share a name with a soccer legend?”

There is speculation that Beckham's name change could be the foreshadowing of a professional soccer career in the future. In 2018, he even said that as a teenager he dreamed of playing for the US National Team, though the travel was too much for his three sport schedule.

Sources close to the US National Team deny that Odell’s busy schedule was the reason for his ultimately unsuccessful soccer career.

“He just wasn’t very good, I’ll beat his ass if I see him around here, but don’t tell him I said that,”

said a player who wished to remain anonymous (it rhymes with Dandon Bonovan).
