The Detroit Lions did everything they could to lose during the first two weeks of the NFL season, but so far have come up short on both occasions. A big lead was blown last week, but Detroit still couldn’t quite complete the collapse in their tie with the Arizona Cardinals and rookie Quarterback Kyler Murray.
In week 2 the team held their own offense to just 13 points and QB Matt Stafford even added 2 interceptions, but the Lions couldn’t quite pull out a loss, beating the San Diego Chargers 13-10.
“We’ve done everything we could over these first two weeks, but obviously it hasn’t been enough.” Lions head coach Matt Patricia said after the game.
“Last week, I thought calling that timeout to prevent us from getting a 3rd down was a great call by the assistant coach to put us in a losing position, but it’s up to the players to execute and finish the job."
"This week we tried to fumble, had Stafford try and collapse in the opposite end zone for a safety, and even had guys looking to jump offsides, but a couple interceptions was all we could come up with. The Chargers are a really bad football team, anyone in this league is going to have a hard time losing to them. Hopefully next week we can finish the job and get our first loss,” Patricia continued.
“We’ve got to do what we can as coaches and players to get back to the consistent losing ways that have helped make this franchise such a household name in the National Football League. Our draft stock depends on it.”
The Lions play at Philadelphia next week and Coach Patricia is hopeful Carson Wentz and the Eagles high flying offense will give his team a whooping.
