The sports world set fire last night as news spread that former Comeback Player of the Year and two-time Pro Bowl selected quarterback Andrew Luck had retired from the NFL. News broke of Luck's controversial decision during the Colts preseason game on Saturday night against the Bears, and clearly didn't sit well with fans. As Luck made his way off the field following the 27-17 loss, Colts fans began booing their former quarterback. He was visibly emotional at the post-game press conference.
Luck who battled injuries for most of his career, has decided to hang up his cleats and pursue acting like many athletes before him. There aren't many details as of yet, but it's been confirmed that the former NFL superstar will play "Ethan Craft" in a Lizzie McGuire reboot alongside Hillary Duff.
"I'm really excited about this new chapter in my career. Coupled with a dream of pursuing acting, my allergies just ended up being too much for me to handle when on the field. At the end of the day, I had to do what's best for me and my dog Gizmo." Luck said.
Luck's most previous acting credentials include a hometown High School production of Mary Poppins, an extra in Disney On Ice, and a cameo in Season 5 of the CBS hit series "Parks And Recreation", playing himself. Although it was a limited appearance for Luck, many bystanders say there was an apparent dispute with a producer over his role in the episode.
"I wasn't in a good headspace at the time. I thought I was a big shot. But I do think I have a lot more to offer," Luck said.
"Taking on this role as Ethan Craft will be really good for me. I've never taken on such a complex character before, and I think I can really bring it to life."
The former gunslinger claims to be what some in Hollywood would call a "method" actor, where you take on the role of your character in everyday life prepping for a film. Indianapolis Colts staff and teammates say they became skeptical of Luck's intentions late into the preseason when he was spotted with Clayton Snyder (who previously played Ethan Craft) drinking spiked Big Gulps at Club Damnation in downtown Indianapolis. It's speculated that Luck was learning the craft of becoming Ethan Craft, others say they are just bros.
Luck's biggest obstacle of the role comes with his immaculate receding hairline. He has apparently enlisted top Romanian hairstylist Nicky Stephen to tame his not so luscious locks.
"Andrew's a tad self conscious about his hair. That's where I come in. He's not my typical clientele, but honey you know I love giving a big strong man some good juicy extensions," said Stephen.
Other confirmed actors alongside Andrew Luck in the Disney reboot are Haley Joel Osment (as Matt McGuire), Kevin Hart (as Lanny), Kevin Nealon (as Sam McGuire), Audrina Partridge (Miranda), and ASAP Rocky (as Gordo). Watch for Andrew Luck on Disney + some time this fall!
Luck leaves a huge void in the Colts offense, but many believe Jacoby Brissett can fill the position well for the time being. The best colts fans can do is wish him well in his new found career. These wounds will heal.
